| Friends, Yet another problem rears its ugly head! The PC has recently updated automatically and now every time we open Outlook for email etc. we are informed that it is not a valid programme. It is not entirely unexpected because we had to purchase a disc from Microsoft to re-install XP Pro some 2 years ago. (@ £99.00) The PC was bought for us by my stepson from a company in London (3 years ago) which has since bitten the dust! What is the alternative, if there is one, because if we click on the "More Information" button we are directed to a page wanting us to buy some programme (Cannot remember which) for yet another £99.00! Is there no way of purchasing just the license key or something? Regards, Peter. |

| Has your pc just installed the office genuine advantage update? ( OGA)Like the windows genuine advantage, ( WGA) the office one detects pirated Office programs? Do you not have a disc to this program? I wonder would A system restore help ... if it has already detected something wrong with your program though I doubt it will do any good in that sense. See pm. _________________ ANNE R

| Someone I know has just had this problem with a new PC in which a 'pirate' copy of Office 2003 was installed. Unknown to him, Windows had been configured to get all updates automatically and, of course, then fell foul of Micro$tuff checking whether Office was genuine. Apparently about 50% of the copies of Office in use are of dubious origin! A System Restore is certainly worth a try, as that will return the registry to its state prior to Office being found to be "iffy", but I suspect what has been installed isn't in the registry. _________________ Mike

| I don't know if this is of any help, but here it is. (Is Outlook not part of Windows XP?) How to Remove, Uninstall or Disable OGA (Office Genuine Advantage) (KB949810) Recently (On April 15, 2008) Microsoft released an office update KB949810 know as OGA (Office Genuine Advantage) which once installed on your PC will refuse to uninstall. If you review your updates history, you may find "Office Genuine Advantage Notifications (KB949810) en-us" under Office 2003 or Office 2007 because either your Automatic Updates were turned on or you allowed it to download. This update does not show under "Control Panel", "Add Remove Programs" list even if you have tick "Show Updates" checkbox. While non-genuine Microsoft products will face problems, it has also caused many issues for official license users of Office products. Microsoft says that this was a "voluntary Microsoft update" but you have no control to uninstall once it is installed. Read more at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Office_Genuine_Advantage So, If you are experiencing a popup stating "You may be a victim of software counterfeiting." You may be being a victim of the false positives the tool can throw up! Of course, if you're running a pirate copy of Office then you just got caught out. "BUT ALL IS NOT LOST" Here are two options that you can use/try. Option One: Download and run this program: http://www.squidoo.com/Disable-Get-Genuine-Office-Microsoft-Nagging-OGA-KB949810 Option Two: From the Run... option on your Start Menu, copy and paste the following line of text, to uninstall it from the registry. MsiExec.exe /uninstall {B148AB4B-C8FA-474B-B981-F2943C5B5BCD} You will be prompted if you are sure you want to uninstall. Click ‘Yes’ _________________ If it ain't broke. Don't fix it.

Just to confirm Peter, is your program a full Office 2003 program? .... if it is, and the rest of the programs that the full Office includes (such as word, excel, access etc ) are all functioning properly then perhaps the issue is not down to OGA ? I would imagine that you'd see the same warning message when trying to launch other programs from the suite. There is a stand alone version of just Outlook 2003 ... if there is confusion on what you have installed have a look through add/remove programs in the control panel , also the All Programs list off Start Menu would have an entry of Microsoft Office and when opened would list all of its programs. _________________ ANNE R

Have checked add/remove programs and the Outlook is included under Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 and has received updates for a junk mail filter. It does not appear anywhere else on that page.
The Office SP3 was installed on 15/11/2007 if that has any bearing on the matter.
Looking at: All Programs list off Start Menu would have an entry of Microsoft Office and when opened would list all of its programs.[/quote]
All Programs, does not give me the option of "Start Menu" only Outlook Express 6 which is unused!
I can only assume that it is something else that is causing the glitch!
Will try uninstalling the update.

Hi Peter,
The Office Service Pack (SP3) was installed a long time ago and is unlikely to have a bearing on what is happening now.
I don't think you need to uninstall this update.
The fact you are being directed to a page where you are being prompted to make a purchase suggests that your current program is a pirate copy ... however, the rest of the programs from Office 2003 show no such warning message *it is possible that a genuine copy can be wrongly flagged as pirated however.
Can you check your update History for the presence of update office genuine advantage KB949810 ... this will also help to confirm what the warning is all about.
To check update history in windows xp:
Launch windows updates manually, you will find this in your All Programs list or in the control panel, when the page loads, in the list to the left you should see "review update history", a new page will load displaying update "activity", with the status of failed or successful, see if you can locate the update as stated, note the date of installation ... post back and let us know.
*Note, you may see updates listed as Failed ... don't be alarmed as if you check through them you'll likely see the update has later gone on to install successfully.
Also, can you confirm the warning message you see:
does it state “This copy of Office is not genuine. Click here to learn more” ... "This copy of Office did not pass validation",
cheers, _________________ ANNE R

You've misunderstood Peter.
IF you have all of Office installed, you should be able to see:
Start/All Programs/Office (or Microsoft Office) and inside that Word, Excel etc. Do you have both Word and Excel installed? If you do, then it's a fair assumption that you have the complete Office suite of programs.
Next thing is, do Word and Excel open without any error messages? If they do, then it's just Outlook that is the problem. |
Yes it appears that ONLY Outlook is the problem!

(Misunderstanding, I meant the Genuine Advantage Update!)

Yes, it is there!

Checked installed 23 September 2009

Also, can you confirm the warning message you see:

Yes, this message appears plus another saying "Remind me Later".
