PostSubject: Vista SP2   Fri Aug 07, 2009 5:03 pm

Hi,

I have tried on numerous occasions to install SP2 but it always hangs on 92%. I've done many searches but been unable to find a difinitive answer.

I've had to hide the update until I can get the darn thing sorted, any help would be appreciated.

I have all other updates installed.

Try running the system update readiness tool which can help with problem files, in turn many have then been able to complete SP2 installation.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821

You could also try temporarily disabling AV program and/or installing in safe mode .... if you are recieving any error codes do let us know.

**I noticed I helped you on vnunet forums (computeractive) .. did you ever get the update Kb955430 to install successfully? this is required for SP2 to install ... if you download the full installation file it includes that update but it may still fail due to that update?

Have a look through here too:

Hello Liverbird,

I never did get kb955430 to install, and I suspect that it is that update that is causing the problem.

With your suggestions above I'll attempt again, will let you know how I get on, still have 430 hidden at the moment.

Thank you for your help todate.

Just to point out if you have a go at that hidden update it must be installed alone ... don't let any other update be installed at the same time (uncheck anything else that's ticked to install) ... also, if your pc is due a reboot after installing any other updates you'll need to let that restart occur before attempting an install of the full SP2 (which will include kb955430) or the single lone update kb955430 .

Two of my mates had the same problem with SP2 stalling at download.

I had to first install updates that they had chosen to hide.
So it's probably KB955430 as you suspect.

SP2 then installed OK, although one had to be installed in Safe Mode ... as Anne advised.

Hi,

I've tried all suggestions but still 430 refuses to install, I've hidden it again. I know it would be better installed but so far I've no problems, keep up to date with all protection etc, scan on a regular basis, so I'll carry on as normal, perhaps I'll install W7 come October.

Thank you both for your attention, it is much appreciated.

Hi jonjon,

As you are aware now, this update has caused a lot of grief ... for example ...

http://www.petri.co.il/forums/showthread.php?t=38462

Like yourself, a number of users are still seeking a definitive answer to this rogue update.

So I hope you get lucky and find a solution.
I've told Anne to give this top priority. Shocked

I've just noticed that there is new batch of 11 XP updates ... fingers crossed.
I'll do them two-at-a-time over a day as usual

Hello Spit,

Appears I'm not the only one then, looks like W7 for me then, luckily I purchased for £49.99.

I need to install a larger HD, so I'll probably go down that road.

Thank you both once again.

Jon.

From what I've read this morning, installing SP2 on Vista isn't necessary, the system will continue working with updates under SP1.
