Is this for real? - It's appeared as a required update. I didn't even know it was due.

I am not going to install it until I know more.

Has anyone else had this?

Thanks - Dave Smile

Vista SP2 is available for download from Microsoft's website. Alternatively, it will be fed into Automatic Updates over a period of time.

Hi Dave ,

I bet seeing that SP was a bit of a shock after all the hype SP1 received .... I think we were all ready and waiting for that update.

I know from the other place that you have successfully installed the service pack which is good ... I've not read of any reported problems so far so it looks like a fairly trouble free time on this one

Don't you believe it! A considerable number of people have had a problem installing from the "stand-alone" SP2 installer, myself included. It gives me an error message that an element is missing. Clicking a link to troubleshoot suggests installing another download first and after that, it just gives the same error again. Crying or Very sad

Jees sorry to hear that Mike! ... I did read an article about certain programs causing the SP not to be offered to some users via windows updates (I think I posted the link to that over on CA) ..... AND also mention of V-Lite ? Any chance you have used this Mike?

After running Windows Update and getting updates going back to July 2008 (the last time I checked for updates!), SP2 has installed OK. Smile

Hi,

As Anne says, SP2 has worked OK for me on 3 Computers now, but I waited until they came as updates on each PC. (period over 2 or 3 days)

Thanks - Dave Smile

I suspect I've restored an Acronis backup at some point, thereby losing updates, although I do get fed up installing endless updates that slow down the PC more and more. I check for updates less frequently than perhaps I should! Wink

For some strange reason, I have had no updates since I installed SP2

My settings are as shown:

Has SP2 disabled something?

Thanks - Dave Smile

Since Service Pack two the only updates offered have been 3 lots of windows defender definitions .... not sure why defender is saying its up to date ... scratch

Hang on for a couple of days yet and see if anything comes in by way of updates to windows itself then we'll know if we are just dealing with a Defender problem.

Had a Defender update on my Laptop last night - (1.59.918.0), and as soon as I uninstalled my HP printer software (HP photosmart C4580 Ver. 12) then reinstalled after first disabling the AV (AVG) and firewall (Vistas own), once I re-enabled everything, and looked at the "Update history", there was a Defender update on my desktop too (1.59.918.0)

- Wondering if the HP software was holding off the updates (unlikely - but in the world of Computing - not impossible), or if maybe the fact that I switched off the firewall then re-enabled it again kickstarted the updates.

I didn't knowingly reset anything at any time, it's just coincidental(?) that the updates for Defender stopped working on the same day I installed version 12 of the HP software (also requiring the AV & FW to be disabled, then it all kicked back in when I Uninstalled version 12, and re-installed version 11.

I will tell HP aboout this, but I'm sure 100% they will deny it being "their" problem. (I had a problem with printing with Word, and that was a software problem - they said it was a word problem)

Thanks - Dave Smile
