PostSubject: product key problem   Wed Aug 12, 2009 5:32 am

My son-in-law had Vista in a computer and couldn't get MYOB to work with it.

He then installed XP because he was told that the program would work with that. It didn't!

He then put Vista back in and got the program to work -

Problem: Now every now and then a window pops up asking for the product key. It will click off without actually putting key in but it is a nuisance. Anybody have any ideas to get rid of it?

Thanks in advance, Zante.

Have you tried entering the key when prompted? If necessary, download and run Belarc Advisor to establish the actual Product Key currently in use with Vista.

Zante - do you mean the product key for MYOB or Vista?

I suspect you mean MYOB.

OH now that is something I didn't ask him - I presumed when he said product key he meant the OS - Vista. I'll get back to you after I see him tonight. Thanks Zante.

Finally caught up with him - he said it is the OS product key that it keeps asking for.
Hope this gives you some clues. Zante.

When he reinstalled Vista, did he enter the product key and did he activate Vista?

If the product key has been entered and registered, then he could try going to MS updates and see if it will allow the updates.
Registration is sometimes automatic when windows checks the system before allowing any update information to be shown.

WGA (Windows Genuine Advantage) Notifications:
Purely a matter of choice if the updates do show, he can also at this time select to "Never show this update again"

Finally got it fixed - he rang Microsoft and they gave him a new key - they were very good he said and apart from a little misunderstanding in the accent department with the passing backward and forward of long key numbers they finally understood each other and now 'she's right mate' - that's Australian for it's working Very Happy Cheers, Zante and thanks for help.

Glad to hear it's been resolved.

As I have said in the distant past, MS can be accommodating even with OEM discs.
