This is what appears on a search of their website Anne

Quote:
"This version of Windows could not be installed" Error Message Installing Windows Anytime Upgrade or Vista SP1 ( 78 % )

RESOLUTION: This issue has been known to occur with a SigmaTel Audio driver installed. Remove the SigmaTel Audio driver prior to attempting a Windows Anytime Upgrade or installing Vista SP1. The Windows Anytime Upgrade and Vista SP1 are supported by Microsoft®.

It doesn't mention what to do afterwards though. I'll continue burying my head in the sand for now Rolling Eyes

Hello again Anne

the fact those steps are not precise in what is intended after the removal of the sigmatel drivers makes me suspect that what they are really saying is "remove the drivers and then SP1 will be offered for you to install" ...... oh yeah, but you'll have no sound ... and we have no other driver for you yet

yeah right! Evil or Very Mad

I hear Sigmatel was taken over by another company and it is now in the hands of the OEM's (Dell, HP, Sony etc), who don't appear to be doing anything at all !

The only good thing, if it gets you anywhere, is that Microsoft say they will give free support for SP1 issues.

Just read "elsewhere" that goonster has now had success with the "latest" download, this time was offered SP1.
So it might be worth trying again.

A few other people on Kitz site are also now being able to receive SP1.
So the original problem definitely looks to have been fixed.

A pat on the back for Microsoft there ...... long over due but I thought they had completely passed the buck .
There'll be a lot more happy Vista users now Smile
