How can you edit 2 movies at the same time?
(Unless you use 2 different movie programs at the same time)
Using one or the other operating systems.

You can only use one or the other OS at any one time.

Sorry if this is going slightly OT, but it may also help with future enquiries. (I hope)

Reading the write-ups of Win 7 it seems that you can install it without upsetting your existing OS, where-as in the past, the old OS had to be removed, the newer OS had to be installed, then the older OS re-installed after. If I'm reading things correctly, then things have progressed and I can bang Win 7 onto my slave without upsetting my existing XP on drive C, thanks again, moxy...

Microsoft's instructions for setting up a dual boot have always been to install the older OS first and then the newer one.

There has never been a need to uninstall the older one and then reinstall it after installing the new OS. confused

I've not read the page yet, but other "How To's" from this site have always been good in the past.

edit
Doesn't look any different to installing any Dual boot system.

Or am I missing something crucial?

The only way I know of booting two operating systems at the same time is by booting up one inside the other ... but you need a program such as "virtual box" or "Microsoft Virtual PC 2007"

I did sort of wonder about that.

But it still only has one CPU split between 2 programs = half speed on each, so takes twice as long (ish).

I assume that I can't use a partition on the new drive for storing the image? I have no room on my external USB drive.

Yes you can store it on a separate partition on the same drive, providing it is not the full "Disc Clone", but only a "Image" of the OS partition.

We may refer to it as a partition, but the OS regards it as a separate drive.[/quote]

Thanks for that information.
Back up & restore seems to have the options I need: ->Backup -> My Computer -> Discs and Partitions

What is the "sector by sector approach" and should I tick this?

1. Which program are we talking about here?

2. I'm not sure, I only use Norton ghost which does not seem to have that option, (Partition Image or Full Drive Clone) is all I use, no other settings need to be selected.

Old Fogey, Liverbird and of course MM, I should have been more precise with my post, re video editing, I meant that with a master and slave, I can edit two PROJECTS at the same time. C drive, master, with XP and Pinnacle Studio and a 150 gig video partition, D drive, slave, with XP pro, Pinnacle and another 150 gig video partition. Project 1, load footage to slave video partition and edit one movie using Pinnacle on C/master drive: project 2, load footage of my second project to the video partition on the C/master drive and edit from the Pinnacle installed on the slave drive. MM with regard to my comments regarding the order/proceedure of installing 2 operating systems to make a dual boot p.c., I must have mis-remembered what I did when I dual booted Me with XP. [ sod it, I'm 65 the brain cells are diminishing day by day, I'm thankful that I can switch on my p.c., and indeed, am able to more or less push the lettered buttons on my keyboard to more or less, make a coherent post] Thanks to all who took the trouble to reply, and is it too early to wish you all a merry Christmas?????? I know it is, but I've done it, all the best, moxy.....

In that case, you need a reply from someone who uses Acronis.
"Not me I'm afraid"

The "Sector by Sector" appears to be an option available only when restoring an image. I've restored images many times and only ever used the normal "Restore disks or partitions" option, I don't see any reason for you having to use the different option.

Just a thought!

I wonder if the "Sector by Sector" refers to only replacing certain files/folders and not the complete image file?
