PostSubject: 7 Networks   Sun Nov 01, 2009 1:08 pm

I have a (probably very simple) query around shared files.

I have just loaded 7 onto a new clean Hard drive partition with no problems.

I have a Laptop running Vista, and another Desktop running XP.

Edited:
If I open the Windows 7 Computer "Network", I can see all the connected computers that are "On Line".

However from either of the other computers (not running 7) the Windows 7 Computer is NOT visible.

Is it possible to get the Vista Laptop and the XP Computer to "see" the Windows 7 machine?

If so - please can someone give me some guidence as to how?

Thanks - Dave Smile

I don't know if it's a solution or not, and know that some people have not suffered from the same problem.
But, my experience of a similar problem with XP and Vista was that Xp would not see the Vista shares unless XP was given a login password.

As there is only myself on my PC's I don't really want passwords but have no option, but managed to counteract having to use the password at login by using the automatic login facility in TweakUI (Possibly also available in the "Bubbles" version for Vista)

Hi - Yes - I have now had to use a password to log in - which is a pain but there it is. The strange thing is I still cant access the Windows 7 Computer from my XP Computer...?

See the amended text just above.

I don't know windows7, but you could try turning off UAC (User Access Control) to see if that help.
Other than that I can only suggest you preserver, the answer has to be there.

Thanks OF - I'll keep looking for the winbubbles for Seven; and it's not the end of the world re accesing my 7PC from my XPPC as I can do this the other way round (put items into my XP's shared folder, and access this from my Seven PC) Smile

Again Thanks - Dave Smile

Try this one.
Do not take too much notice of the picture that is displayed because it's not really like that at all, (close but not that close)
The DL link is nearly at the bottom of the page.

Hi OF,

I went to the link, and down the bottom found the DL link. It downloaded as a zip file winbubleslite (duly extracted). opened the application, and found the window as shown here:

However try as I might, I can't see how to disable password at logon or anything similar confused

It's probably me being stupid - but Embarassed .... could you please tell me if I at least have the correct software version? (The download was from cnet)

Thanks - Dave

I notice that is the "Lite" version you have..

But, looking at the full version I have (version 1.76) there does not appear to be automatic password at login setting (as in the XP version of TweakUI)

http://unlockforus.blogspot.com/2007/12/unlocking-winbubble-part-1.html

My problem with a password was that untill I gave XP a password only then would Vista be viewable from my XP PC.

You could try running the "Network settup wizard" again on both PCs, it may help, but at least it won't do any harm.

Hi OF

I've had a good look in the link - going right to the end.

My problem is exactly the same really, Until I give Vista a password only then will Seven be visible from Vista.
However one stage furthur - in XP there is not even the option to give XP a password.

It's probably one of those wait and see things, that until more clever people than I want to sort it - won't get sorted.

AS for the password issue - I can live with that for the moment

As in your "signature" "If it aint broke....!"

Thanks for your help - Dave Smile

There is a password facility in XP.

Go to "User Accounts" if there is more than just your account, select your own account and you can give it a password.

"Then I used XPs TweakUI to remember the password, so as not to have to be bothered with the password on login"

I don't have a password set in Vista.
I do have a password set in XP.

I have found a "Tweak ui" type program for Seven:

http://www.thewindowsclub.com/ultimate-windows-tweaker-v2-a-tweak-ui-for-windows-7-vista

It seems OK, although there is no apparant facility for by-passing the logon password.
