| Friends I am using Microsoft Office Excell 2003 (11.8342.8341) SP3 for invoicing but it does not automatically update the numbering.
Is there any way I can simply reformat the cell(s) to achieve the automatic number change e.g. start 2000 next opening 2001 etc. etc?
Regards Peter. |

| Sorry I can't help, especially as mine and at least one other persons is now also not advancing either, I don't know if it's been a update that stopped it working properly and don't know of any other way of doing what you want it to do.
But. who knows, maybe someone will come in with a suggestion.
Good luck

Edit.
I just tried mine again and I actually had to select the install folder to install the invoice template, obviously I have not used it recently or re-installed it the last time I installed Office.
But, click on where it says 'Invoice No' then it asked me to click the invoice toolbar (which you can get to from View Toolbars then Invoice and a small popup opens with 7 options.
But to start with on install it asked to make sure I wanted to enable 'Macros' or else it does not work properly.
Unfortunately mine has started with the number 1, so would either have to put up with that or just sit and create quite a few duff invoices to boost the number, only I think many years ago I tried altering the formulae and that also made it stop working.
So, once again Good luck and I hope that is helpful.
Edit But I just discovered you can actually keep hitting the add number button to increase the invoice number. Also what I just did was to manoeuvre the small drop-down box so it is in-line with the massage asking about changing the number so as not to have to keep moving the mouse pointer |

| Thankyou for the info', I have tried reloading but it still does not work.
I will just have to look at my last invoice and go from there, I have been looking at Free software for the same purpose but it appears to have the same drawback for some reason.
Thankyou again, Peter. |

| Dis you, or do you try the option of:
Click the invoice toolbar which you can get to from: View > Toolbars > Invoice and a small pop-up opens with 7 different options one of which is the invoice number increase icon.
Did that not work for you, just opening the invoice does not automatically increase the number, also have you tried opening a NEW Office document, then select the Invoice option?
What is it that is happening to you....... |

|
The option for Invoice is not included, so cannot be ticked! |

Merely opening the invoice template (MS) does not uprate the numbering and opening a NEW office document I do not understand.

Peter. |
I have tried downloading a NEW template from MS which is the basic invoice template for Office 2003.
When I have all the details added I shall try writing a few dummy invoices because the numbering starts at 100 and my business has already reached the chicken feed total of 1019, I do not sell much unfortunately!

| First of all you need to select 'Open a NEW office document' from there you then need to select the invoice option.
Once the invoice is open you should then be able to open the invoice toolbar, which you should be able to see once you have opened:
Click on View > Toolbars > Invoice and a small pop-up opens with 7 different options one of which is the invoice number increase icon.
If you are not getting that option then it sounds as if Office invoice is no longer installed on your PC.
Are you selecting the Open new document 'Invoice' or what are you opening?

Thankyou I now understand why things are not working as they should or are expected to do!
On my desktop I do not have "Office" etc. only Excel, Outlook express, Word and other non Microsoft programmes.
If I look through drive (C) programmes I can find Microsoft Office but no way of using it as a programme! In the folder I find there are 3 main folders OFFICE11, OFFICE12, OFFICE14, none of which contain Office.exe which I assume is the package? I must admit that it is 99% guesswork on my part!
Is there something I should be looking out for to give me the desktop icon as access for this "New" document?
Regards Peter. |

| I think the MAIN reason for not having ALL the functions installed is because the Office programme is a non-genuine MSN product!
It was installed on the OS that we were given some years ago and the "Genuine something arrangement" showed that the whole system was not genuine, we have since purchased the XP Pro programme but the Office 2003 is still the old version!
I have been searching through the files on Microsoft and this is the only conclusion I can come to at this stage!
Thanks for all your advice.
Regards Peter. |

| With my system when I open 'All Programs' from the Start menu one of the various options in the Microsoft Office programs folder is to open a 'New office Document' then I would chose from the various tabs the 'Spreadsheet and Solutions' option then followed by Invoice.
If you do not have that option showing try going to: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Shortcut Bar\Office
Which is where those shortcuts are located when first installed, you can then drag a copy to your desktop or start menu which is located here, (just use either one).
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu C:\Documents and Settings\Phil\Start Menu

Thankyou,
Typing in that path results in an error message "Cannot find 'file \\\C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Shortcut Bar\Office" Make sure the path or internet address is correct"
Therefore we must assume that it is not on the PC! £$%^*()+! Or words to that effect!
Thankyou for your attempts and advice, I really appreciate everything.

| I have never used any version of Office that does not have the 'Open New Office Document'
I would go so far as to say it has to have it and it's there somewhere, so maybe go back to the start of the Office program folder and check all the sub folders as well, although it should not be, make sure hidden files and folders is not activated. Do not rely on using a search, do it manually, although you could first try a search, but just for part of the above search string. Maybe try 'Shortcut Bar' as I would not think there would be many of those options, but like I say, don't just rely on the search function.
Problem is if you go to Add or remove programs, when you click Add/Remove it will give you the option to repair, but, the chances are it will probably at some stage as you to input the software disc or point to the folder location where it is stored.
Other than that, I can't think of any other suggestions, but you had it at one time,so it should still be there. |

| Thankyou for all your help, I tried it as you suggested, put in a disc with Office 2003 (Not Genuine) and it refused to load anything!
I will just have to wait until I can afford to change the whole OS to something more modern and hope that I can use it better for my little business.
Again, thankyou for ALL your help, I really do appreciate it, regards, Peter. |
