PostSubject: Firefox   Thu Mar 05, 2009 7:40 pm

Hi,

I have (or I thought I had) Installed Firefox 3 on my PC as an alternative browser to IE7.

However, when I click on the Shortcut, it starts to download again, and says it will take over an hour.

I have tried to remove it and start again, (as it appears to be corrupted?) but when I go to the uninstall from "programs and Features", I get the message "There was an error uninstalling Firefox from your computer. Error 21"

I want to have firefox on my PC, what can I do to uninstall it or reinstall it, or fix it?

Thanks - Dave Question

You could try a system restore to a point before you installed FF.

OR

You could try removing FF with Revo Uninstaller. However, Revo uses the program's or Windows' uninstaller as a first step, so it might not do it.

You could also try downloading Firefox again from www.mozilla.com and then install that over the top of the faulty installation. Then, if necessary, uninstall via Add/Remove Programs or the Revo Uninstaller and start afresh.

That's the way I'd go first.

Thanks Dave, Mike & Malvachat (gather from your signature, your an oout and out Firefox fan)

By the time I re-visited this post, the suggestion of re-installing was the latest, so I did this first, the thought being if that didn't work I could try the others.

However after 2 goes - It did re-install, and is now up and running. I have customised it with a few add-ons, and may use it as my default browser.

Thanks, Dave

As you now being converted.
Please allow me to give you two extensions that I absolutely think I couldn't live without.
There are ones like foxy tunes and Tab Mix Plus which are great.
But "Back to top"and "Quick drag"(with just the bottom option ticked)I highly recommend.
There are other drag extensions as well, this just happens to be the one I use and prefer.

But like all extensions it's personal choice.
That's what makes the Fox so special.
In my opinion of course

Quick drag https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/6912

OK malvachat - here's one for you,

A work colleague uses Firefox, and Thunderbird for email. He knows I am recently converted to Firefox, and has asked me if it's possible to have a link to his email page from his Firefox home page, and vice versa (a link to his Firefox home page when he has finished accessing his email)

As I use Outlook 2003 for my mail, I am not sure how to do this. Is it possible?

Thanks - Dave Smile

I don't know of anything off hand.But I wouldn't think so.
Your asking for a link to a program on your PC.I can't see how that could be done.
There are plenty to link you to a web e-mail.I have one to my Yahoo account.
I have just thought on maybe. There is an extension that opens ccleaner.
I'll ask on here later if I get the chance.

You can change the email client that FF uses:

That's how mine works Dave.
I thought he wants to open the program rather than link from a link,if you know what I mean?
Also switching from the Bird to the Fox.

I got a reply.
These might do the job.
Toolbar Buttons or Custom Buttons.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2377

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2707

When I get the time I'll look at these more closely. There might be button I might like.
Opening winamp maybe?or something I use often.
Then again I don't want my toolbar looking to full.

More on this subject.
There appears to be a custom make button maker for "Toolbar Buttons"

http://codefisher.org/toolbar_button/toolbar_button_maker

So you can have just what you want.
The read mail from Firefox is there,if that's all that's wanted.
Can't see a launch firefox from Thunderbird.
I'll have a study at a future date.
Looks a useful tool.

Thanks for all that information.

I'll have a look through, pass it on and get back.

Might try it myself (if I can find a link to Outlook 2003). I did try and drag the shortcut into a toolbar, but it wouldn't work! Embarassed

Why "Outlook"?
Thunderbird is a great e-mail client.
You can customize it just like the Fox.
Personal choice of course,I just wondered if you'd tried it.
It imports all your addresses from outlook.

Uh - not tried it, Embarassed but I use Outlook 2003 in work, and it suits to use the same.
