Actually I think that article is quite good especially as it's a marketing ploy for sales of their antiviral program.
I just wonder how many people "newbies" would see it that way.

About.com doesn't market any software Phil, it is an information provider primarily. I have been getting their newsletter emails for longer than any others I subscribe to.

So, there's no marketing ploy involved.

They do have sponsored links to related software, but they don't directly market anything.
It's just advertising and probably how they fund the site.
