PostSubject: Home PC connect to business PC in another city   Thu Jun 04, 2009 8:08 am

My thanks to MM (Mike) for informing me that I had broken the rules on the Web User forum by requiring information about a business!

Anyway, I have tried searching via the internet but found nothing that could be related that I understood.

My wife has her own business auditing accounts for small businesses and wishes to keep all the data on the customers PC but be able to access it as and when required remotely.

Since neither of us have any experience in this regard, is there a simplified set of instructions for setting up the connection?

Please remember that we do need "Simple" instructions!

Regards, Peter.

I look after a set of accounts remotely, and I use LogMeIn (paid for by the customer in this case).

You would need software installed on the remote PC, as far as I know, then all you do is log into the PC via the LogMeIn web page.

Have a look: https://secure.logmein.com/home.asp?lang=en

Try Dave's suggestion.

For "File & Printer Sharing" with a remote computer over the internet, I would actually use the "Hamachi" software, which is a very simple way to set up a VPN (Virtual Private Network). It is software that is also available on the LogMeIn website:

https://secure.logmein.com/products/hamachi/vpn.asp

To "Remote Control" another computer over the internet, rather than have direct access to its files, I would use a VNC program such as RealVNC

http://www.realvnc.com/vnc/index.html

In both cases though, software would need to be installed in both "local" and "remote" computers.

Thankyou for the comments.

As it is my wife has been contacted by her new client and he has put something in place to alleviate the problem.

Thanks again, Peter.
