Mike has provided the reason why in his post:

"TCP/IPv6 protocol is not yet in use and having it enabled can cause connectivity problems."

It is also the reason why, when running ipconfig /all, you see hexadecimal IP addresses and entries for "teredo tunneling pseudo-interface", which is TCP/IPv6 emulating TCP/IPv4 over a TCP/IPv4 connection. At present, there is nothing to be gained from having it enabled in Vista or installed in XP and it can give rise to problems with version 4 connections.

To uninstall TCP/IPv6 in Windows XP, open a Command Prompt window ("Start > Run", type cmd and click OK) and, at the prompt, type...

ipv6 uninstall

...and press Enter. To install it, type:

ipv6 install

...and press Enter.
