Hi All.

My sister has bought a new laptop with Vista on. She can't use the CD to get connected. There is a pop-up that says 'You are not logged in as administrator, Please log off and log in as administrator' She is the administrator, and the only one on. Is this Vista or the TalkTalk CD that won't let her install it?

Thanks for your time, Bob.

Bob,

"You are not logged in as administrator, Please log off and log in as administrator"

Try this: Go into "Control Panel > User Accounts", and click the link to "Turn User Account Control on or off" and turn it OFF. Then see if the CD will run.

If not, open the Command Prompt window with Administrator rights. Go to "Start > All Programs > Accessories", right click Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator. At the prompt, type...

cd\

...and press Enter. This will change the prompt to C:\>

Now type...

X: (where "x" is the drive letter of your CD/DVD drive)

...and press Enter, which will change the prompt to your optical drive's letter. Let's say it is drive "D". At the D:\> prompt, type dir and press Enter, which will show the directories (folders) and files in the root of the CD. Look for a file called something like "setup.exe" and, if it's there, type that at the D:\> prompt, which should start the installation.

It's a bit long-winded but...

Thanks Mike, will try that on Saturday when I go down to see her. Will let you know if it works.

Bob. Smile

Hi Mike,

forgot to ask if it is easy to transfer contacts and emails from old laptop to new one. (Outlook Express)

Hi Bob,

You can use the files and settings transfer wizard to shift everything from one computer to another. Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Files & Settings Transfer

(The exact location on the start menu may be different in Vista.)

Thanks Dave, never thought of that. Didn't have time to do much today as she had two units waiting for me to fit up. The info Mike gave me worked. ("Turn User Account Control off") Got the CD working but had to leave her to do it herself as I had to pick my wife & son up. Thanks for all your help.

Bob.
