Is it better to turn modem off when not online - is there risks to leaving it on? I know some who leave their modems on all the time that the PC is turned on and others who turn the modem off when not needing to be online. I leave mine on when I am at the PC but (if I think of it) turn it off when leaving for a time. Will be interested in your thoughts on this. Zante.

Most Routers and Modem/Routers are designed to be left permanently on, so this shouldn't present a problem. Many users though do like to power everything off when not in use, even if just to save electricity.

I have "Cable" broadband and therefore a separate Modem and Router but, unless I am away for a few days, both remain on permanently. Ultimately it is your personal choice.

Hi Zante,

my router is left on 24/7 .... current one has been on now for about 17 months Rolling Eyes

not very "green" of me but I do have four pc's connected and I would be forever turning it on and off .. we also have wireless enabled and the kids use it for different devices.

Obviously if we go away for several days then I turn everything off as you would for safety etc.

Thanks for all of the above advice - I will just leave mine on then when the computer is on. I can understand you, Anne, not wanting to turn everything on and off - four computers! I have enough troubles with one! Oh and the laptop - but I love every minute of it even though it does bring me to using impolite language now and then! Cheers, Zante.

If I have enabled the wireless setting, then sometimes (if I think about it) I will turn off the modem when closing down for the night.

I tend to leave mine on all the time - apart from holidays.
