I'm not sure that I follow this because, when using a router, it is the router and not the PC which connects directly with the ISP. As the PC is getting its internet access over a Local Area Network connection it wouldn't normally show as "connected to" anything.

Having said that, I have never connected a computer to a router by USB which, I know, does involve installing software. If this is how you're connecting, can you connect by ethernet instead?

If you're connecting "wirelessly", is it perhaps the router's SSID (wireless network name) that you are seeing as "connected to"? You should be able to edit the SSID in the router's wireless settings.

Mike I have got it to say BT internet but unfortunately in brackets behind that it still says (talktalk) it's all working OK but I would like to be able to delete that name.

I'm still not quite sure where you are seeing this "Connected to" message. Is it a wireless connection with talktalk in brackets forming part of the router's SSID?

If the router was originally supplied by TalkTalk as part of a broadband package, it may have been customised for their service so that the reference to it cannot be removed. Question

If you bought the router independently, then it definitely must be removable.

Peter R

Where "exactly" is it showing the name?
Is it just on the "Title bar" at the top of the page?
Or is it in your "Wireless Network settings" ?

A screen-shot may help clarify matters.

To post a screenshot on forums you need to upload the image to a "hosting" site, once uploaded the site gives you a number of codes (url's) from which you use one and paste it into a reply on here.

You could use "preview" before posting your reply to check the code chosen has worked the way you wanted.
You can have the image embedded or a link for us to click on that takes us to your screenshot.

Image hosting is free and we all use the likes of PhotoBucket or ImageShack:

http://photobucket.com/

http://www.imageshack.us/

On Imageshack you don't even need to sign up just use the "browse" to find the screenshot on your pc, then hit upload.

Anne

PS, Peter are you using Vista?
Have you checked in Network and Sharing centre found in control panel, click on customise and see if this is the name your network has, if so rename your network.

Ok, that explains that it your modem/router that is displaying the info.
I thought it may of been on the "Top info bar above the toolbar"
Which (on mine) shows as: Microsoft Internet Explorer.
Which is a totally different thing.

Sorry but I can't help you, other than, if you are still stuck, pop over to:
http://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php?board=4.0
and have a word there (some very knowledgeable people)

**********************

As for posting a screen shot:-

Firstly I use: ScreenHunter 5.0 Free http://www.wisdom-soft.com/downloads/index.htm
Followed by: http://s92.photobucket.com
When you select your image file, chose the one that stats with: [IMG]http://
Paste it here, then preview it before Submit.

NOT: <a href="http://

That sounds like it's your network name. You should be able to change that in the router config.

When you select your image file, chose the one that stats with:
IMG]http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l39/oldfogy/GTGrandad.gif[/IMG]

Like I said before, use the file starting with [IMG] as above but make sure you do not remove any of the square brackets.
However to be able to show the complete file name for Granddad, "I have removed the first bracket.

Although I suspect you may be choosing the wrong file name to start with.

The best thing to do is to copy and paste all of the various options so you can see which one works for you.

Hi Peter

Your problem shows that the minds of puter users vary enormously. If the same thing was happening to me it would be a minor insignificant event and not worth worrying about. Things I worry about affect the performance of my PC. Still each to their own but does a little pop up sign whose apparance you can control really worry you that much? Shocked
