| Thanks Anne & Dave, It's a great relief, but as for the hair...oh that it would grow back... unfortunately, it's too late for that! As to the frustration and persistence, it's the support of the forums that keeps me going on to the end, as well as the little thing inside me that doesn't like to be beaten. Dave |

| As an update, I have been finding the Internet really slow with Virgin's Netgear Router, and also my Laptop, and now my daughters, is having connection problems (WPA enryption time out). I only want a reliable consistant reasonably fast service!!! Shall I get back to Virgin and ask why their Netgear router is not up to the job. (Sometimes pages take 5 minutes to load - dialup was faster!) I'm back on my Linksys now, and the pages are flying up. btw Anne, I notice you've gone back to your old CA avatar... How do I put an Avatar on this site please? Thanks - Dave |

Click "Profile" in the links at the top of the page then, in the Profile section, there are several options along the top, one of which is "Avatar". You can upload your Avatar there. _________________ Mike

| When you upload an avatar of your own you'll need to make sure its of a certain size : Displays a small graphic image below your details in posts. Only one image can be displayed at a time, its width cannot exceed 150 pixels, the height cannot exceed 200 pixels, and the file size cannot be higher than 64 KB. Tried to make this bigger but it went tiny!! _________________ ANNE R

| Dave I had previewed it about 4 times and kept trying to re-do it ... then I thought just leave it as it is and it came out really small .... smaller than my first go . I was just at a loss to what was going on with it Is it a "bug" in the "previewing" only but then it shows up correctly ? EDIT: Have tested it and today it worked as it should ... don't know what happened yesterday unless it was to do with the text being pasted from elsewhere. Anyway, let the thread stay on track for Dave . _________________ ANNE R

| This Internet thing is driving me slowly crazy again. Yesterday, having been plagued with very slow Internet & Inter computer speeds, I changed back to my Linksys, and the speeds are much faster (back to how it used to be). However this morning none of the Computers would connect to the Internet, even though the globe icon was present and the computers were supposedly connected! A reboot of the Linksys sorted the problem and the Internet has been fine all day. It seems I either have very slow internet, or have to reboot my router all the time. The Netgear router (supplied by Virgin) is slow, but I don't have to reboot it all the time. The Linksys router (my own) is fast, but I have to reboot the router. (Well I had to today, and thats the first time since Virgin "fixed" the original problem - but I hadn't tried the Linksys router in that time) The D-Link Router worked OK,once the problem was fixed buit I went and changed it for Virgin's Netgear one when that arrived. Perhaps I should try the D-Link one again? I will get back to Virgin next week, and try to find out why their Netgear router is not performing as it should (It would be just my luck to have a duff one - lol) Any thoughts anybody? Thanks - Dave |

| My thoughts are that you have two duff routers and a slow one. I apologise if I have disappointed with gloomy thoughts Dave. Dave _________________ I realised I was dyslexic when I went to a toga party dressed as a goat. |

| I don't think I can usefully add anything to Dave's comment. Unlikely as it may be, you do seem to have a hardware problem with each of the routers and with the LAN connectivity rather than the ADSL service. As a matter of interest, how does the Netgear router perform if you only connect to it by ethernet cable, with none of the computers connecting "wirelessly"? _________________ Mike

My main concern is to get the Netgear router running right. It's a brand new router (guaranteed by Virgin for 2 years) so it's got to be a router or a settings problem.
Proved as follows: I had the Netgear router connected via ethernet cable, and no other Computers switched on and it was pitifully slow. (This page for example would take 2 minutes to load fully - Think this answers your question too). I switched off the Netgear router, and connected up the Linksys WAG200G. Once the Linksys was "up and running", I could connect to this page in about 5 seconds. This was consistant for all pages, and at all times. Even when 3 Laptops were "pulling" off the system, it never appreciably slowed up.
With the netgear, I tried a few times to send a 250Mb file to my daughters Laptop, and the screen said it would take 9 hours! The Linksys sent it in about 5 minutes. I tried this operation about 6 times with the netgear, not believing it, waiting 5 minutes, aborting it, rebooting the 2 Computers and trying again.
I just hope I can persuade Virgin to send me another Netgear. The Netgear also has this annoying problem of not allowing my Toshiba Laptop to connect sometimes (posted elsewhere on this forum)
Thanks - Dave |

| Certainly sounds like the Netgear isn't working properly. You should be able to insist that Virgin either replace it or fix it. _________________ I realised I was dyslexic when I went to a toga party dressed as a goat. |

| >>>I hope this will finally fix things for you Dave .... it's been a rollercoaster ride for you this has .... Can't work out how to only include some of your post as a quote Well the version 4 arrived as promised (can't fault their delivery service). It's set up and running. Only time will tell if it stays "UP". As you know, I've been here before, so will not get unduly excited for a day or 2 But I'm hopeful and yes... -> Dave |
