| Friends, recently IE8 automatically installed on my PC running XP Pro. Before downloads of music from Itunes, 7digital and Soundclick were rapid transfers, now the download starts quickly (250Kbs) and then plummets to (28-35Kbs) for no reason at all making a download of, e.g. 3.50Mb about 3 minutes! Is this connected with the installation or perhaps something else? Your thoughts would be appreciated. Regards, Peter. |

| Can't really answer your question, but what you could try is to remove IE8 using "Add or Remove Programs" and see if it reverts back to your normal DL speed. Also have you tried any of the Speed Test sites, such as http://www.speedtest.net/Try the speed-test before and after removing IE8 _________________ If it ain't broke. Don't fix it.

| I don't know about downloads.I found it slowed my start up.I very rarely use IE so out it went.I now have it as a hidden update. I don't bother with live search for the same reason. When I go to Windows 7 in the autumn I'll properly not have IE installed at all.I'll run the Fox with maybe Opera as backup or maybe even Chrome. Chrome seems to be coming on in leaps and bounds. _________________ Beer is for life not just Christmas. |

| My thanks to all for the ideas. I have discovered that Firefox is very rapid so am opting to use that in future! Thanks again, Peter. |

I find that both IE8 and Firefox 3.5 are very quick, and use the former more often.
Remember to update FF to version 3.5.1 to cover the latest clocked vulnerability.
