PostSubject: IE 8 Officially Released   Tue Mar 24, 2009 4:49 pm

IE 8 is now out of beta and officially released. I've downloaded it, but I won't install it for a while, I always wait and see what problems there might be.

One important thing to establish before installing it is that you can remove it and roll back to what you already have easily. I haven't found out about that yet.

Just letting you know in case you want to try it.

I did read elsewhere of someone who was not happy with it so "Rolled back" only to have further problems.
Sorry no specific info on either the original or following problems they encountered.

Sooner than download and store the first or current download I would be inclined to wait until any possible updates have been uploaded.
At least that way there is less likelihood of storing and installing possible faulty version.

Yep ... I'll wait a wee while before installing it.

Also provided that there's no roll-back problems.

I waited months before installing Internet Explorer 7 and so was ready for any main issues which had been reported.

I'm sure we all remember the "Motives SmartBridge Error." ... as soon as had IE7 installed I was ready to deal with it and knew exactly what to do.
Apart from that it ran perfect for me back on my old XP pc although I know many had numerous problems.

I hope the move to IE 8 is going to be a smoother ride for most this time Smile

No reason to rush your upgrade to IE 8

I have put this comment up on other place as well.

I downloaded IE 8 - I uninstalled IE 8!

I found it slow and jerky and was pleased to get back to Firefox!

Don't know if it's anything to do with Vista or not.

Have had no trouble either installing or uninstalling or after.

Zante.

If I remember correctly, Internet Explorer 7 on its own uses more resources than the entire Windows XP operating system, so goodness knows what I.E.8 requires.

I never use Internet Explorer. On those occasions when I.E. is required, I use Avant Browser, which is IMHO a very much better user interface that runs the I.E. engine in the background.

Are there any "known issues" at present, like we had the list of issues with IE7 have any of you come across problems that many are reporting Question

Really! The information we get from our forums never ceases to amaze me.
I didn't have any 'issues' Anne except for slow and jerky as mentioned but then I didn't leave it in long enough to get any!

I hadn't realised that there would be occasions that IE would be needed or to put it another way - occasions that Firefox could not cover and that IE could. Would you tell us a bit more about this please Mike?

Zante.

The most obvious one is "Windows Updates" (and other Microsoft downloads), but there are also links on some websites which will only open in Internet Explorer, even if it isn't set as the default browser in a particular PC. It used to be that some online banking sites required a particular version of I.E. and I know someone whose online banking system won't work with Firefox.

Oh that's why I have to go into windows update in startup - I hadn't actually given it much thought - just got into the habit of it. I have always 'been goin to look into that!'

Cheers, Zante.
