Hi Guys n Gals,

I've already posted the following on the CA/VNU forums, so decided to also paste it here.

=================================================================

Greetings All,

With the run-up to Christmas, like most people I've been getting a pile of forwarded e-mails with the usual jokes, greetings etc.
This doesn't bother us, and we send a few ourselves.

However, we're also getting a lot from people we don't even know ... friends of friends of friends and so on.
This is caused by some people forwarding these messages to everyone in their contacts lists / address books.
So your address is being splattered all over the Internet, and also arriving at people you don't even know.
I would imagine that a lot of people won't be very happy about this practice of their addresses being seen by strangers.

It's very easy to prevent this by using the BCC facility.
I noticed this link at Nob's forums for those who don't bother using BCC or are unaware of it.

Quote from the link

Oh happy days!! You've protected the EMail addresses of your friends/family from spam harvesters.

BTW .. there are some other handy tutorials on the above web page

Cheers, Spit

Good Post Spit Wink

I get lots of mail where senders have left list after list of other peoples email addresses!

I think I will be adding that link to the end of some emails to certain friends of mine

I've been campaigning against misuse of email for some time. You might like to look at a series of articles I wrote - they cover more than just using BCC.

I "occasionally" receive a email from a friend of mine and it may contain anything up-to 20 peoples address's.

This being one of the reasons I ask friends not to send me these jokes.
(Although some of them are quite good)
