My advent 7105 laptop makes 3 beeps at startup.Its an AMI bios btw,is it the memory chips

For the AMI bios:
3 Short Beeps = Memory failure in the first 64 KB

Its worth popping the RAM out and gently cleaning the contacts with a 'plastic' pencil eraser, or a rubber one if you dont have a plastic synthetic type. The plastic erasers are less abrasive than the standard rubber ones therefor you lessen the chances of damaging the delicate gold plated contacts
