I have a (probably very simple) query around shared files.

I have just loaded 7 onto a new clean Hard drive partition with no problems.

I have a Laptop running Vista, and another Desktop running XP.

Edited:

If I open the Windows 7 Computer "Network", I can see all the connected computers that are "On Line".

However from either of the other computers (not running 7) the Windows 7 Computer is NOT visible.

Is it possible to get the Vista Laptop and ...

Hi,

This is the message I posted on CA, still not resolved. My queery is if this is not resolved can I simply install W7 in the condition my laptop is now?

Thank you for any help.

Due to my utter stupidity, please don't ask, my Dell Inspiron 1720 laptop, Vista HP, will not boot into the OS.

A message pops up that tells me to insert the Windows Cd and click on "repair", but of course I don't have such a thing. I have a Dell " Drivers and Utilities" DVD ...

I noticed on my c drive the old windows files after putting in my new windows 7.

Only because I seen how full it was.

Now I installed after running the RC for a while.

Now I assumed that the new disc would overwrite(reformat)all my files.

I have a partioned drive anyway so I wouldn't lose them.

On closer inspection it appears not.

All the files I had on c drive before instaling are still there.

I don't remember seeing a format option when I installed.

There must be one??

I currently have a PC running Vista HP. The existing HDD is about 160Gb, but there is a recovery partition (Not visible), so only 140Gb is available.

I have ordered a new SATA 750Gb Hard drive, and preordered a copy of Windows 7. I also have a copy of Acronis.

This is what I'd LIKE to do...

1. Partition the new 750Gb drive into 2 x 200Gb, 2 x 100Gb Chunks & 1 at 150Gb!

    A. How do I partition this drive?

2. Clone ALL my existing drive (including the recovery bit) to one ...

I have been having a play about with the beta version of Windows 7. Vista's appearance was dramatically different from XP's, whereas Win7 could almost be a service pack for Vista and, like Vista, finding your way around is IMHO much less intuitive than with XP.

However it did install quickly and it does seem to boot much faster than Vista. I'm still using XP drivers for graphics card and sound card, which work OK. It didn't like Office 2003, which caused the whole PC to hang, so I've installed ...

My question below - which I thought would be a simple one sent to Bigpond! I don’t want help setting internet explorer up I just wanted the ISP (Bigpond is my ISP) phone number! So does anyone know what to do about this problem. Is there anywhere on main computer I can look it up? Can you skip this step etc. Everything else has gone great, no trouble, Windows 7 installed smoothly and everything seems to be working properly – mind you I wouldn’t have done this to my main PC! But ...

Hi,

I am running Vista Ultimate, but have installed W7 on a separate partition, (separate hard disk, actually) and now have a choice when booting, to choose W7 or Vista.

However, the default is W7, which will boot up if the PC is unattended.

Is there a way to change this, to make Vista the default?

Thanks,
