Can't connect second pc to wireless router - driving me mad

Now seem to have got the adaptor working and wzc seems to stay on.Got here by downloading a driver only and also by unchecking the Belkin boxes in msconfig.
Now I get stuck on acquiring network address.Checked thar dhcp is on and tcp/ip on auto.
Could I change to assign an ip address manually?
If so what values etc do you use for ip, subnet, gateway ,dns etc.
Maybe this in daft but advice would be appreciated.

The last router I had problems with - stuck on acquiring network address - I had to reset the router, then reinstate the network key.

There is a tutorial HERE on the allocation of fixed addresses, but do note my comment in the first paragraph about not using fixed addressing if the PC isn't connecting properly to the router. Try Dave's suggestion of resetting the router first.

Don't really want to reset the router as it is working fine and laptop is connecting no problem.I had problems getting the router set up in the first place so I am reluctant to mess with it.Also I had a similar problem with the BT router we have just removed and replaced with this Sky one.

I have set the ip adresss etc manually and have no problem connecting now provided wzc stays on.But it doesn't even though the failure boxes are set to restart after 0 time.
WZC stops after a few seconds or quite along time, very variable.
So I am really no different from when all this started.

Have you run scans with up-to-date AntiVirus and Anti-Spyware programs to ensure that internet "nasties" aren't responsible for the problems with WZC stopping?

Yes, I managed to get it connected long enough to run a afull AVG scan.Will try to do spyware today.

When I started the PC this morning I left it for a while before having a look and amazingly it was connected and working.Whether it will do the same thing next time is anybodys guess.
One problem is that if it did the same again I have done so much I don't think I could do it again.
Anyway, lets look on the bright side, it's working so I can reclaim my laptop from my daughter.
